summer (5)

the summer wears
a yellow dress
and oversize sunglasses.
it sits quietly
reflecting on the days
it’s seen and
the days it hopes
will follow.

the clock
rushes impatiently,
ticking minutes
passing days;
my life
is fading,
my time
is short.
many adventures
yet unfulfilled.
childhood dreams
near death.
finite end
for an
infinite beginning.

and there was an itch,
it was deep
and it was lasting,
the itch one gets
when waiting long periods
of time for something
truly exquisite.
and that itch
causes a numbness
in the extremities,
leaving you with the feeling
that part of you is dying
and you won’t feel alive
again until you get a
hard, satisfying scratch

sunlight streams
through sheer,
torn curtains,
illuminating eyes
still blurred
by sleep.
wake up,
my darling,
the world
is waiting
and ready
to fight.

I cut myself shaving
this morning. as the
blood slowly trailed
from the chin down
the neck, it reminded
me of the time, at
that bed and breakfast,
when that hideously old
woman served that bright,
yellow, runny, eggy disaster.
and true to your nature,
you ate them,
if only to be polite.

I can taste your perfume
on the warm, summer breeze
that wafts through my window,
as I sit at a cluttered kitchen table,
lazily sipping my espresso
and I wishing that you weren’t
so far away from me. my toast
is cold and dry and it exaggerates
a depression undoubtedly
caused by the lack of
communication between our hearts.

your spider bite,
tiny reminder
of that day
in the park.
bare flesh warming
in a UV heaven.
ants, in their armies
attack my Siddhartha
like little Napoleons.
you sitting as a
praying Buddha,
contemplating hopes
that may lead to the
happiness eluding
you all these years.
